One sunny morning in 2010 a squeaky meow stopped me in my tracks. The sound emanated from an overgrown ditch behind my large pasture in the Florida Panhandle. A gold tortoiseshell cat and I locked eyes. It was love at first sight.
That was twelve years ago. She’d already been spayed by a previous owner. My guess is that the cat is now thirteen to fourteen years old.
Essie has trained about seven Border Collies using mostly dirty looks, a haughty attitude and an occasional hiss. To date, none of my dogs have successfully challenged her.
Essie rules!
